It was written when I was Rector of the Parishes of Bright, Ballee and Killough on the east coast of Co Down. My own parishioners recognized the story immediately – Ballykill Church is Ballee and Drumkilly was the church at Clonmellon in Co Westmeath. The ‘vestry’ is the parish church council.
