Steph,

I have no problem with evolutionary science, I think faith is about those things which are and will remain outside its parameters. I think a need to believe in justice shapes my preference for the story of Jesus. Without resurrection, without a defeating of death, then there is no justice for the poor. On this Holocaust Day, I have to believe in a life to come for those who suffered at the hands of the Nazis (and, I'm afraid, no life to come for those responsible).

Well done, Ian

Your sermon has got me thinking! I like the openness and honesty of your approach to religion today and I hear you loud and clear. I'm all for freedom of choice and expression but I'm compelled to ask why it has to be 'which' story do you prefer?

I come from a scientific background and therefore I believe in the concept of 'survival of the fittest'. But I also believe that we have a meaning and a purpose in life and therefore 'how' we choose to lead our lives, will affect our very survival.

I don't mean to be awkward but I fancy a combination of the two stories :-D
